H.M. Tesselaar Alstroemeria
Last Monday Niels Tesselaar came at our door to let take pictures of his Alstroemeria assortment. He had his car filled with orders to meet each customer’s wishes, customization is the key word at this time.
Niels is raised in a real growers family with his father as the driving force. A few years ago the young generation has acquired the company. Niels has worked for several exporters and had his own line of flowers in Germany to supply florists. A very enthusiastic and passionate person with a green thumb…. this brought him back to the nursery.
Grower Tesselaar has also its own breeding program and they are searching for new species which add something to the current Alstroemeria range. Species with an appealing colour and a good stem quality is preferable. Their concern for the environment is shown by the fact that they comply with the requirements for MPS-gold, this is a sustainability certificate.
Do you know the Alstroemeria thanks its name to the Swedish lawyer Clas Alströmer (1736-1794) a pupil of Linnaeus. Alströmer informed Linnaeus that plants, called the lily of the Incas, were being cultivated in the garden of the Swedish consul.
