The story of J.W. Knoppert & Zn goes back to 1896 when grandfather Knoppert started a horticultural business in Honselersdijk in Westland. The Knoppert family has the business in their genes, with generation after generation learning all about horticulture. In 1989 Jan Knoppert decided to specialize in the production of the Amaryllis flowers. For this reason he moved to ‘s-Gravenzande. In 1999 his sons, Erik and Wim joined the firm.
With focus on expertise, sheer effort and determination that has gone into it, the Knoppert family has made the business to what it is today: leader in the Amaryllis cut flower market with 30 hectares under glass. Professionalism along with the latest growing technology and a sustainable energy policy are the three main areas of focus.
The Amaryllises love cool summers and mild winters. The location of J.W. Knoppert & Zn is just perfect: the differences in temperature, including in the greenhouses, remains low and therefore help reduce energy losses. The climate in the greenhouses also benefits from the constant wind and the high number of daylight hours along the coastal strip. This all results in strong flowers with an excellent vase-life.
